At the beginning of my career, I remember working with a fellow sales colleague who always used to say “no one rents space in my head”. He was referring to our tough sales manager who was always taking shots at the new guys and riding us hard. There was no one who was going to put fear in his mind or hold a job over his head. To be absolutely transparent… I felt at the time this job was do or die for me, I had to be successful and wasn’t remotely thinking about a Plan B. I survived it, unfortunately he didn’t, but I still very much respect the attitude about not letting anyone (including oneself) get inside your head in a negative way.
Time is our most valuable asset. It is on us to make the most of it and live our life to the fullest. Often we find ourselves holding back our dreams because of the fear of change, concerned over taking risks, or whatever the excuse might be. No matter what career you choose, if you really love your work and it is your passion, you will be successful on all fronts. My advice is to be smart financially not to trap yourself into a path you don’t want to be on.
Sometimes you just have to rip the Band-Aid off and start over again!
